Harold B. Kort was the first descendant of William "Wolf" Kort to go to college. Harold earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Omaha in 1936. He later earned his Masters in Public Health from Tulane University in 1958.
Harold Kort's career in Public Health began with a 12-year stint with the Omaha Douglas County Health Department, where he was responsible for ensuring the wholesomeness of the commercial milk supply. He also served in city government as the Urban Renewal Administrator and head of the Housing Authority which developed Omaha's Housing Code for Minimum Dwelling Standards.
He was the Public Health Officer for the University of Iowa and a founder of the Kirkwood Community College program in Environmental Public Health Occupations. In 1976, he was named winner of the Henry Albert Memorial Award for outstanding service in the public health field in Iowa. He retired in 1978.
A few years after retirement Harold and Estelle Kort moved to Indianapolis to spend their senior years closer to their grandchildren.
