About Harold Robert Waterson

Harold served in World War 1, as a Private, 2nd Battalion, Canterbury Infantry Regiment. Service Number 63799.

He left for war 16 November 1917 with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, 32nd Reinforcements, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, C Company.

Harold died aged 21, killed in action 26 August 1918 in Bapaume, (east of Amiens, south of Arras), France. Three days later the New Zealanders captured Bapaume, breaking through the Le Transloy-Loupart trench system. The battle of Bapaume, 21 August-3 September, was the second phase of the battle of Amiens, the turning point of the First World War on the Western Front. The war ended 3 months after Harold died.
