Dungog Chronicle: Durham and Gloucester Advertiser (NSW) Tue 27 Oct 1942; Obituary:
THE LATE MRS HARRIETT FRANCES ROWE.
On Tuesday, October 13, there passed away (as previously reported in the Dungog 'Chronicle') at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. Southan, Dungog, a nonagenarian in the person of Mrs Harriett Frances Rowe, who, born at Summer Island in 1852, was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Sanders, of Kinchela, Macleay River.
Married at 18 to Thomas Rowe, - who took up virgin land at Kinchela, she resided at that centre until 15 years ago, when she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. M. Hurrell, Willoughby. In January this year she moved to Dungog.
In those long-gone years when every person had to be self-reliant, Mrs. Rowe proved her mettle in nursing the sick and assisting her neighbours in numerous ways, in addition to rearing a family of eleven, six daughters and five sons, of whom survive Mesdames J. Southan (Dungog), M. and H. H. Hurrell ( Willoughby),
and Messrs. Thos. Rowe (Kinchela), Hercules W. Rowe (Temora), Henry and Albert Rowe (Urunga).
Surviving sisters are Mrs. A. Taylor and Mrs. S. Kitchen, Campbelltown. Few of her contemporaries survive in this district, but their descendants will recall this gentle and genial lady.
The funeral took place to Frederickton Methodist cemetery on Thursday week last, moving from the Funeral Chapel, after a short service by the Rev. Kay Mason, who officiated at the burial. Many friends and relatives attended. —Macleay 'Argus.'
