About Harry Coleman Dellar
Graveside services for Harry Coleman Dellar, 87, Houston, formerly of Tyler, are scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rabbi Neal Katz officiating under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
Mr. Dellar departed this life peacefully Sunday, June 8, 2008, at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on February 4, 1921, in Portland, Ore., to the late Abraham and Selma Wolf Dellar. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Melvin and Bertram Dellar, his loving wife of 60 years, Mitzi and their daughter, Janice Dellar.
Harry is survived by his daughter, Nancy Pichardo and husband Rodolfo Jr.; grandchildren, Sandra Longenecker and husband, Todd, and Rodolfo Pichardo II and wife Carlina; great-grandchildren, Corbann and Logan Longenecker and Briana and Rodolfo Pichardo IV.
Harry and his wife, Mitzi, moved from Los Angeles, Calif., in 1952 where he opened his own plumbing factory, Texas Tubular Products in Owentown. At the age of 57, he sold his company to Beatrice Foods so he and Mitzi could travel around the world and enjoy life while they were healthy and he continued that yearly cruise tradition with his daughter and son-in-law until 2006.
He was on the board of many Tyler associations and built homes and enjoyed being the life of the party even at the end.
In his spare time for 15 years after he retired he was a volunteer worker for SCORE (counselors to America's small businesses) in Tyler, Texas, and Los Angeles, Calif.
Harry made many friends at The Hampton Retirement Community, where he had lived for the last two years in Houston, and I know he will be missed at the daily poker games and activities.
The family wants to thank everyone who was Harry's friend, all of his wonderful doctors, the staff at University General Hospital, 4th floor staff, Hospice, and his compassionate caregivers at home, Maria and Patricia.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a heart or Cancer Society of your choice.
