Listed in the "Military Enrollment List" 1917, Niagara County. Listed as Harry Read Lapper, b.7/15/1897, Buffalo, NY and residing on 1431 Bush St. in Buffalo. Employed as a "lead moulder".

NYS Archives military record of WWI. Harry Read enlisted at Ft. Niagara on May 23, 1918; military serial number - 652,087. His address at the time of enlistment was 1838 Weston Ave. in Niagara Falls, NY. He was assigned to the 34th Artillery and was given the rank of Pvt 1 C1 on October 18, 1918. He saw no action overseas and received his discharge on December 19, 1918 and had no disabailities.

This record indicates that he was born in Black Rock (a section of Buffalo, NY) and was 20y and 10 mos. at the time of enlistment.

correct based on ages and other records.

Resided at 2472 Willow Ave. in the City. Native of Buffalo. Was a veteran of WWI and served in France for about 1 year. Employed by DuPont since 5/1942, worked as a plant patrol unit member. Survived by his wife Helen Russell Lepper, brother Arthur V. (of N.F.), Mrs. James (Mable)Calvert of Lewiston, and Mrs. Charles (Catherine) Schmelzer of Flint MI. Wake at Otto Redanz Funeral Home presided by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Interment at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Niagara Falls.
