Listed in the "Military Enrollment List" 1917, Niagara County. Listed as Harry Read Lapper, b.7/15/1897, Buffalo, NY and residing on 1431 Bush St. in Buffalo. Employed as a "lead moulder".

NYS Archives military record of WWI. Harry Read enlisted at Ft. Niagara on May 23, 1918; military serial number - 652,087. His address at the time of enlistment was 1838 Weston Ave. in Niagara Falls, NY. He was assigned to the 34th Artillery and was given the rank of Pvt 1 C1 on October 18, 1918. He saw no action overseas and received his discharge on December 19, 1918 and had no disabailities.

This record indicates that he was born in Black Rock (a section of Buffalo, NY) and was 20y and 10 mos. at the time of enlistment.

• Catherine and Maggie were in school; nothing written for the other children.

All could read write and speak English. Sarah had 6 children and all were alive
at the time of this census. Says Harry was born 7/1899 but this cannot be
correct based on ages and other records.

1905 NYS Census; living on 1712 Pierce Ave. Occupation listed as a laborer. Indicates he is Canadian born as his his wife and children; all except for Arthur who was born in 1899 here in the U.S. Arthur (a41), Sarah (a40), Maggie(a15), Catherine(a17), Bessie (a13), Mable (a11), Harry (a8), Arthur(a6).

Copy of Will from Niagara County Courthouse Vol 131, p478, box 19295. Will confirmed date of death and relationship to Helen Lepper. Their place of residence at time of death was 2472 Willow Ave. in Niagara Falls. Date of will 6/2/1954. Relationships to brothers and sisters are listed on the proof of last will & testament dated 9/11/1956. This may indicate the remaining siblings of Harry Lepper.

Birth/Marriage dates from Lepper family Bible that belonged to Sarah Elizabeth (Reed) Lepper, wife of Arthur V. Lepper.

Death Notice & Obituary from Niagara Falls Gazette (8/29/1956, pg17:6, 24:8). Died at Memorial Hospital at the age of 59y of a heart ailment complicated by pneumonia. Resided at 2472 Willow Ave. in the City. Native of Buffalo. Was a veteran of WWI and served in France for about 1 year. Employed by DuPont since 5/1942, worked as a plant patrol unit member. Survived by his wife Helen Russell Lepper, brother Arthur V. (of N.F.), Mrs. James (Mable)Calvert of Lewiston, and Mrs. Charles (Catherine) Schmelzer of Flint MI. Wake at Otto Redanz Funeral Home presided by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Interment at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Niagara Falls.
