Harry Webb McCourt was born in Taylors Falls, Chisago, MN to Janette "Nettie" Webb (Maximilian J. Webb of Skowhegan, ME & Mary Mendel Sawyer also of Skowhegan, Maine) and James Henry McCourt (Margaret Mary Young originally from Glasgow, Scotland & James McCourt originally from Carrickfergus, Antrim, Ireland).

Harry worked as a newspaper publisher and reporter in St Croix Falls, WI & publisher in Big Stone, Ortonville, MN where, in 1895, he met and married Elizabeth Bennett. The couple moved to Republic, WA (drawn by the emerging gold mining industry) where Harry worked as a reporter for the town newspaper. He succumbed to tuberculosis in 1902.
