Harvey Perry

March 5, 1957 - Humboldt Independent - Harvey Perry was born Dec. 28, 1883 at Ackworth, Iowa, and passed away Feb. 10, 1957, at his home in Dakota City. He was the oldest of six children born to Frank and Hulda Hiatt Perry. He attended country school and at the age of 16 moved with the family to Westhope, N.D., where his father homesteaded. Later when Harvey became of age, he also filed a claim and farmed for several years.

September 30, 1907, he was united in marriage to Olive Pearl Overholt, who was telephone operator there. They made their home in North Dakota until 1910 when they came to Eagle Grove, Iowa. They lived there a short time where Mr Perry worked in the railroad shop. Later they moved to Dakota City, Mrs Perry's home town. Harvey worked at railroading, tiling the old way by hand, also brick and mason work, and in later years at the DeKalb Hybrid plant.

To this union were born five children, Gilbert of Fort Dodge; Donald at home; (Olive) Mrs John Earles of Des Moines; Ada Fern, who passed away at the age of 21 months; and Daryl of Stuart.

He is survived by: four children; two sisters, Mrs Lola Ratekin of Desert Hot Springs, California, and Mrs Ada Stead of Milaca, Minn.; seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, one daughter and one grandson.
