HARVEY RICE DIES MONDAY Funeral services for Harvey E. Rice, 74, of Doyon were held Wednesday at the Doyon Lutheran church with Rev. Opsahl officiating. Interment was in the Doyon Community cemetery. Mr. Rice died early Monday morning at the Mercy hospital in Devils Lake where he had been admitted atbout an hour earlier. Harvey Eugene, the son of O. E. Rice and Ida May Graves Rice, was born October 25, 1891 in Odessa township near Crary. He attended school at Crary and then was engaged in farming. On September 18, 1917, he entered the United States Army during World War I. He served in France frorn June 20. 1918 to April 20, 1919 as a PFC witlh Battery D. of the 161st FA. He was honorably discharged August 10, 1919 at Camp Dodge. Iowa.. On July23, 1921 he married Mable Dahl. She died in August 1924. Mr. Rice operated a Service Station and a Cream Station for awhile. On January 14. 1930 he was married to the former Elfie Aronson at Devils Lake. They made their home in Doyon while Mr. Rice was a mail carrier from February 16, 1920 until retiring June 17, 1953. They have continued to live in Doyon. Surviving besides his wife are a son, Wayne Harvey of rural Fargo; two daughters, Mary Ann (Mrs. Michael Kuntz) of Ada. Minn., and Adele (Mrs. Gordon Spidahl) of Fargo; a brother, Hugh Rice of Missoula, Mont.; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Sjolund of Glendive, Mont., and Mildred Rice of Crary, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters. Mr. Rice was a member of the Doyon Lutheran church, the American Legion, the VFW, the 40 & 8 and the Knights of Pythias.
