Biography

Hazel Mary (Alloway) Howery was born on August 30, 1918 in Bonesteel, Gregory County, South Dakota, United States. Her parents were Roy Marion Alloway and Mary Jossie Lee (Boyette) Alloway.

Hazel married Dudley Hamilton Howery, Sr on June 5, 1944 in Greeley, CO, United States. Together they had the following children: Bunny JoDean (Howery) Johnson; Delmer LeRoy Howery.

She died on August 6, 2015 in Laramie, Albany County, Wyoming, United States.

Obituary

Long time Laramie resident, Mary “Hazel” Howery, age 96 years, 11 months and 24 days, passed away at 12:10 a.m., Aug. 6, 2015, at Ivinson Memorial Hospital. Cause of death: Her body was tired.

Hazel was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Bonesteel, South Dakota, to Roy and Jossie Alloway. She had one younger brother, Marvin. Hazel spent her growing up years in South Dakota. In her lifetime, she experienced the last three months of WWI, the Roaring ’20s, the Great Depression, the Dustbowl, WWII and all of history that has happened between then and now.

Hazel married Dudley Hamilton Howery on March 5, 1944. They were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Bunny JoDean, in December of that same year. They welcomed their handsome son, Delmer LeRoy, in January 1950.

Hazel and Dudley were proud owners of Howery’s Jewelry store in downtown Laramie from the early 1950s-1982. They worked together and loved together for 39 years until Dudley passed in 1983.

Hazel is survived by her children, Bunny Johnson (Joe), of Laramie, and Del Howery (Emily), of Pavillion; grandchildren, Del Howery Jr, Dawn Johnson, Naomi Durrant, Christine Butler and 13 magnificent great-grandchildren.

A public viewing will be from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015. The services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015, at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home, 2133 Rainbow Ave. Following the services, a family and friend luncheon will be at the LDS Stake Center.
