Immigrated to New Amsterdam from Hamburg, Germany. Arriving May 9, 1661 on the English Sailing ship "De Bever", Ships master was Captain Pieter Reyersen. Book: " Ship Passenger List" New York and New Jersey 1600 to 1825. Published by Carl Boyer 3rd. At Newhall, CA 1978.

Heinrich and Gertrude w ere among those German Palatines emigrating to America, at the invitation of the Queen of England, who guaranteed them land, about 1710. Many were shuffl ed off to Schoharie, NY and suffered near starvation before becoming integrat ed into the populace. Many moved to PA a few years later. Traces of them ar e still found in the PA Dutch communities. From there they became true Pioneers. On page 152 of Bible Records and Marriages, TN, it states that the Yoakums were Welsh. They lived with the Dutch, first residents of Manhattan I sland. The name changed from an unpronounceable Welsh name to Iugum or Jagum, a Latin work for Yoke, then later to Yocum and Yoakum.
