About Helen Leona Aleshire
KEWANEE - Helen Leona Aleshire, 89, of Liberty Village, formerly of Galesburg, Mount Sterling and Clayton, died at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa.
Born February 11, 1912, in Marshalltown, Iowa, she was the daughter of Barnett Oaka Crabtree and Ollie Rash Crabtree Rentz.
She married Omer Shank. He preceded her in death.
She later married James Kenneth Aleshire. He also preceded her in death.
She also was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Surviving are three daughters, Nancy (and James) Shank Bettinghaus of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Iris (and Stephen) Aleshire Currier of Annawan and Ilene Aleshire of Fort Worth, Texas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She had worked at her parents' bakery, Crabtree Bakery in Clayton and Mount Sterling.
She later graduated from Galesburg Practical Nursing Program in 1966 and was a licensed practical nurse at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg before retiring.
She was a past worth matron of Order of the Eastern Star in Clayton.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Church of Peace in rural Kewanee. The Rev. Jane Courtright will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee.
Burial will be in South Side Cemetery in Clayton.
Memorials may be made to a local women's shelter.
