About McQuaker, Helen Helen (frequently referred to as Ellen by her parents) was only nine years old when her Mother died and twelve when her Dad died. After her father's death she stayed with a family in Bunessan where she eventually became postmistress.(In 1901 Census she is listed as residing, aged 15, with Archibald Macdonald & his daughter Jessie Ann, aged 28). She met her future husband, Neil, who was away fighting in the Boer War by translating correspondence from him to his parents in Bunessan.
