About Helen Estella Neild
11/19/2015
Thank you, Bruce Stinsman's monthly genealogy newsletter!!! Finally proof of Helen's identity without having to order records from Camden County. The Stinsman Newsletter this month published the marriage record of Helen's daughter Dorothy in Winchester, Virginia. On it was Dorothy's mother's maiden name - NEILD.
I was worried after last month's newsletter that had Helen's son Raymond's obituary that said Helen's maiden name was O'Neal, but I tried to find any O'Neal's that could have been her, and nothing. FamilySearch even showed me Helen Neild's entries as a possible match for O'Neal, and the records for Helen Neild were by far the most likely. But now I have convincing proof.

I think Helen's maiden name is Neild. Have not found marriage record.
Helen Neild was the only Helen born about 1895 living in Gloucester City Ward 2 in 1910.
Helen Neild was born in May, 1895, and is probably one of very few Helens or Estellas born that month in the whole Camden area. The 1900 census lists Helen Neild as Estella.
Harry Stinsman and Helen Neild were in the same class at Gloucester City High School.
Our Helen told the census takers in 1920 and 1930 that both parents were born in New Jersey. Both of Helen Neild's parents were born in New Jersey.
Helen Neild cannot be found anywhere in 1920 (or married to anyone else) by familysearch.org.
The Neild family lived in Gloucester City since Helen's father was born in 1865.
Status of the Neild family is similar to the Stinsmans. Don't know if they were Irish, but some Neilds married obviously Irish people, and in 1900 they had many Irish neighbors in Gloucester City.
Helen Neild's oldest sister (born 1889) is named Mary F Neild. Could Mary F Stinsman have been named after her?
Another nice thing if Helen Neild is the right person for this tree: I already have Helen Neild's mother's maiden name (Lee). And Helen Neild's grandmothers' maiden names (Leek and Barrett). In fact, as of 3/6/2012 I have the Neild ancestry more well developed than the Stinsmans, without trying very hard.
