Helen F Kay / Kapochius

Retired Sunday, April 26, 2009, age 97 at Henry Ford Village; Renaissance Gardens in Dearborn, Michigan. Born on December 22, 1911, Helen F Kapochius, daughter of the late Jonas and Mary Kapochius (Kairukstis) of Pittston, Pennsylvania - Step daughter of the late Peter Kairukstis of Pittston, Pennsylvania. Helen was a graduate of the School of Nursing, Grace Hospital, Detroit, Michigan, class of 1938. She served with Wayne University sponsored 36th General Field Hospital deployed in the European Theater of WWII. Helen served 20 years in the US Army Nurse Corp, including WWII and the Korean War. Once she retired from the Army, Helen moved back to the Detroit area to be near her sisters and brothers and their families. She became an industrial nurse for Ford Motor Company; Rawsonville Plant, Ypsilanti, MI. Helen was one of 14 children. She was preceded in death by brothers -John (Dorothy) Kapochius; Simon (Connie) Kapochius; Frank (Francis) Kay; Leo (Agnes) Kay Sr. Sisters: Anna (Frank) Peterson; Margaret (Jeff) Palermo; Mary (Benedict) Agurkis; Agnes (Frank, Sr.) Brace. Helen was also preceded in death by three infant brothers, one infant sister, plus several nieces and nephews. Helen is survived by her loving sister Lillian (Samuel) Adams; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; as well as many great-great nieces and nephews. Visitation Voran Funeral Home, 23701 Ford Road, Dearborn, MI 48128 Sunday, May 3, 2009 1-9 p.m. with Rosary Service at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at The Church of the Divine Child, 1055 North Silvery Lane, Dearborn, Michigan 48128, Monday, May 4, 2009. In state at 9 a.m. with the Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m Interment - Arlington Cemetery; Washington, D.C. Memorial contributions may be made to Henry Ford Village Hospice or Disabled American Veterans.
