

Helen G. Mandella is born on 2 March 1909 in Worcester, Massachusetts[1], the daughter of Vincent Mandella and Josephine Mercurio Mandella.[2]
In the 1920 federal census of Worcester, Massachusetts, taken 10 January, Vincent Mandella heads a household at 5 Lyon Street, with his wife, Josephine. Vincent is 41, a fruit dealer in a grocery store. He emigrated from Italy in 1889 and has filed first papers for naturalization. Josephine is 39 and emigrated in 1896 from Italy. She has also filed first papers. Their children at home are Joseph, 21, Matthew, 20, Rose, 19, Anthony, 15, Mary, 13, Helen, 11, Albert, 9, Paul, 7, and Florence, 1 year and ten months, all born in Massachusetts. Joseph and Matthew both work in a foundry, JOseph as a moulder and Matthew as a machinist. Rose is the floor lady at a place I can’t make out, looks like “Fraton Knight.” Anthony is a shoe maker in a shoe shop.
The next family, at the same address, is headed by Thomas Mandella, 28, single, who emigrated in 1899. Thomas is also a moulder in a foundry. In his household is his mother, Rose, 63, a widow, who immigrated in 1894, the same year as Anthony Mandella, who is the head of the next family at this address. Anthony, who is also a moulder in a foundry, is 35 and immigrated in 1894. His wife is Mary, 29. Their children are Paul, 7, Rose, 5, Alfred, 2 years and nine months, and Rita, who is seven months old.[3]
In the 1930 federal census of Worcester, MA, taken 2 April, Vincent, Anthony, and Thomas Mandella’s families still live at 15 Lyon St. Vincent is 55 and his wife, Josephine, is 49. They each first married when he was 24 and she was 17. Their children at home are Joseph, 30, Albert, 19, Paul, 17, Helen, 21, Florence, 12, and Gloria, 6. Vincent, a fruit dealer in a fruit store, is an alien resident who immigrated in 1895. His wife is a naturalized citizen who immigrated in 1898. Joseph is a construction laborer. Albert is a vulcanizer in a tire shop. Helen is a nurse for a private family.
Anthony Mandella, 43, and his wife Mary, 37, live with their children Paul, 17, Rose, 15, Alfred, 13, Rita, 10, Evelyn, 8, George, 6, and Robert, 3. Anthony is a naturalized citizen who immigrated in 1895. He is a molder in a foundry. Paul is a musician in an orchestra.
Thomas Mandella, 40, lives with his wife, Mary, 38, and children Joseph, 7, Henry, 5, Edward, 3, Thomas, 2, and with Thomas’s mother, Rose, 75, a widow. Thomas is a naturalized citizen who arrived in 1895. He is a molder in a foundry. His wife is an alien resident who arrived in 1908. Thomas’ mother, Rose, came in 1895 and is an alien resident.[4]
Helen marries Raymond L. S. Patriarca on 2 February 1939.[1]
In the 1940 federal census of Providence, RI, taken 6 April, Mary J. Patriarca, 61, heads a household with her son, Raymond, 32, and his wife, Helen G, 31. All were born in MA. She owns her home, worth $8,000 ($139K in 2017 per the CPI Inflation Calculator). Mary is a widow. Five years before, Mary and Raymond lived in the same house, and Helen lived in Worcester, MA. Ray is a handy man on “Mother’s Estate.”[5]
Raymond and Helen have one child, Raymond Jr. (1945).
Raymond , Jr. is born 24 February 1945.[6]
Helen dies on 7 September 1965. She is buried in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence, RI.[7] Helen is 56 years old.
Raymond Sr. dies in 1984.[6]
