In the 1841 Census I've been unable to locate Eccles family because as it turns out of a misspelling not on the census form but the Scotland's People which I've reported. They are called Eceles rather than Eccles, although its clearly written as Eccles. They are living in Mill Street Ayr with James Eccles working as an Agricultural Labourer. James is 47, Mary is 37, Jean is 10, Mary 8, Ann 6 and Gilbert 2 years.
I have located them in the 1851 census when they are living in High Street Ayr. Mary and James with Mary, Ann, Helen and Elizabeth. James is 60, Mary 48 with Mary 18, Ann 16, Helen 6 and Elizabeth 8 months. James is still working as an agricultural labourer.
In the 1871 census Thomas and Helen are living in St Quivox with children Margaret 4 years, Elizabeth 2 years and Mary 1 year. Thomas is employed as a shoemaker.
In the 1881 census Thomas and Helen are living in Stranraer, Margaret is 14 years, Mary 11 years and Helen 9 years. Elizabeth is not recorded.
In the 1891 census Thomas is a shoe salesman in Stranraer, living in 18 Greenvale Street. He is 48 years, Helen (called Ellen in this report) is 46 years, Margaret 25 years is a dressmaker, Sarah a shop girl, james a Grocers apprentice15 years, Annie a scholar 8 years, Thomas 4 years and a grandchild George Wilson are living in the house.
Thomas died in 1899 and Helen Mckenzie Reid died in 1900.
