About Heman Leonard

Heman Leonard was one of the first settlers in Grand Rapids, Mich. In 1847, he established the firm of H. Leonard & Sons (crockery and household furnishings). The company dissolved in 1952



"Herman Leonard, son of Jonathan and Persis (Henshaw) Leonard, born April 30, 1812, in Parma, N.Y., died Feb. 21, 1884, in Grand Rapids, Michigabn. He married first, in Fawn River, St. Joseph County, Michigan, May 7, 1841, Maria Goodrich, daughter of Nicholas and Patty (Strong) Goodrich. She died June 26, 1842, and he married second Sept. 10, 1845, Jane Goodrich, sister of his first wife. They came to Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1846, and lived to see an Indian trading post become a modern city." 1951 Michigan state volume, genealogical records, Ancestry.com
