About Henry Proctor Adams

Henry Proctor Adams, born near Lundy's Lane, March 12, 1822, settled in Acton, County Halton, where he learned his occupation of miller and afterward, in 1855, built mills and did an extensive business, building up what is now the town of Hanover, where his son, James Henry Adams, resided, and was resident manager of the Merchants' Bank. He settled in Acton,ON in 1836,and there he learned his trade as a miller, remaining till 1844; was in Westport Mo., 1847 - 1850; settled in Hanover ON, in 1855, where he built mills and an extensive business, building up the village, He was a prominent Mason, school trustee.He Removed to Bruce, North Dakota in 1881. was buried at Cavalier, ND

(Mar. 12, 1822-Jan. 2, 1882). He was married three times: first to Huldah Griffin (Aug.5,1827-Aug.15,1856) on Jan.24, 1844 and they had four children; second to her sister Emily Griffin (1834-1873), daughters of Rev. Smith Griffin and Betsy Edmonds (see below-'C') and in this marriage seven known children were born; and third to Elizabeth Cass (Feb. 7, 1843-Feb. 1903) and they had two sons, Charles W. (Oct.18,1875- ) and Howard L. (Nov. 7, 1877-Oct. 8, 1915). Henry and Elizabeth are buried in Cavalier Cemetery, ND. Henry's obit in the Christian Guardian states he was born near the old Lundy's Lane Church, three miles from Niagara Falls and moved to the US after his first marriage and spent 2-3 years in several localities in the middle states. He returned to Ontario and after a few year's residence in Durham, came to Hanover about 1854. Because of financial difficulty he moved to the US again about 1880 and sought a home in the prairie land of Dakota. It also says he had trained at Victoria College.

Henry Adams was the first settler in Hanover. He married Huldah Griffin, daughter of Smith Griffin and Betsy Edmunds of Erin.

Huldah died in Hanover in 1860. Henry then married her sister Emily - had six children. Emily died in Hanover. Lundy's Lane
