About Henry Bagwell

Henry Bagwell was born circa 1668 at Accomack County, VA. He was the son of John Bagwell (c 1640-Oct., 1686) and Ann Bagwell (b-1646). Ann's maiden name is not known.

Henry married 1st, the sister of Thomas Crippen (Name unknown). The couple had 3 children: Henry Bagwell (c 1702-6/3/1735); John Bagwell (c 1704-Dec.1729) and Elizabeth Bagwell (born ca 1706).

In 1704, Henry owned 412 acres of land in Accomack County, VA.

Henry Bagwell married 2nd wife, Margaret Drummond, daughter of Capt. John Drummond (Quaker) and Patience Hill after October 2, 1711. Henry & Margaret Bagwell had 4 children: William Bagwell (c 1712-1734); Thomas Bagwell (c 1714-6/1764); Tabitha Bagwell (c 1716- 11/10/1766) and Ann Bagwell (c 1718-12/2/1762).

Henry was named in his cousin's will on August 15, 1712 at Accomack County, VA. In his will, Thomas Bagwell gave his son, Thomas the plantation where I now live containing 165 acres. To son, John my part of Cedar Island. Wife & 5 daughters: Elizabeth, Susanna, Ann, Comfort & Sara, residual legatees: Sons under 18, Daughters under 16, Wife (no name). Executor, brother John Bagwell and cousin, Henry Bagwell, Trustee. Wittnesses: Sarah Metcalf, John Metcalf & James Davis.

Henry was also named in his brother's will on October 27, 1722 at Northampton County, VA. In his will, Alexander Bagwell left his silver shoe buckles to his brother, Henry Bagwell.

Henry Bagwell was also named in the settlement of his brother's estate on June 4, 1723 at Accomack County, VA. Mr. Henry Bagwell presented a Bond made to him and Naome Bagwell (executors of Alexander Bagwell, deceased) by John Jacob, Edward Turner, Thomas Marshall and William Major. It was proved by oaths of Thomas Johnson & Daniel Rogers.

He was also named in the settlement of his brother's estate on August 5, 1725 at Accomack County, VA. Mr. Henry Bagwell, moved that (Alexander Bagwell, deceased of Northampton County) there was part of his estate in this County. It had belonged to Bagwell's widow, Mary who had recently married Jacob Stockly. It was ordered that any of the 3 heirs could divide the estate.

Henry made a will on August 12, 1734 at Accomack County, VA. In his will, he names his wife, grandson, Charles Bagwell & children.

Henry Bagwell died before October 1, 1734 at Accomack County, VA. It was on this date that his will was proven.

He was named in a land cause on March 26, 1765 at tract A-69, S.E. of Accomack, Accomack County, VA. Robinson Smith, who claimed under Alexander Bagwell, late of the said County, dec., together & undivided hold a certain tract of land containing 500 acres to be divided one moity thereof to the said Elizabeth Smith and the other moiety to the said Spencer & Charles, etc.
