About Henry Paul Peter Baron
Baron, Henry P. Born June 27, 1925 on a farm in Royalton, MN where he plowed fields with horses as a boy, died April 2, 2016. Preceded in death by Kathleen, his loving wife of 60 years. He will be deeply missed by children Bruce, Brad (Beverly), Greg, Joe, Bill (Lori), Mary, Anne Schmidt (Jerry), and 9 grandchildren, Matt, Mike, Dylan (Heather), Melina, Jacob, Alex, Jonathan, Jenna, Abby and many loving nieces and nephews. Henry's adventurous spirit led him to work the ore boats on the Great Lakes at age 17. He joined the Merchant Marine during WWII and with his Great Lakes experience completed Merchant Marine Officer School in Connecticut at age 19. He crossed the Pacific many times and went through the Panama Canal 7 times during wartime. He was a Safety Engineer for Travelers Insurance and Chief Boiler Inspector for the State of Minnesota. Henry was an example of the "Greatest Generation" -- growing up on a farm during the Depression and serving his country. He and Kathleen demonstrated their faith and concern for others through serving those in need. He will be deeply missed by his children who remember their great family adventures in the motorhome, while boating, and through hearing his stories of sailing the Pacific. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Basilica of Saint Mary, 16th & Hennepin Ave., Mpls. at 4:00 PM on Thursday, April 7, 2016. Visitation 1 hour prior at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to the Basilica Landmark for ongoing restoration. Historic Thomson-Dougherty 612-871-4407
