

Henry was born in Cumberland Co. KY, on 21 August 1824. His family moved to Macoupin Co. IL ca. 1828 and then to McDonough Co. IL ca. 1831. He married Sarah Bradshaw Cherry on 4 December 1846 in Macomb, McDonough Co. IL. Henry's father, Elijah Bristow, went to Oregon in 1845-46, and ca. 1848 all the rest of the family followed him except Henry, who stayed in Illinois. He worked as a blacksmith and then as an engineer for the TP&W Railroad. He lived for many years in McDonough Co. IL, then in Warsaw and Hamilton in Hancock Co. IL. An obituary wrote: "...during the Mormon war [he] served with the state troops and was one of the guards at the jail during Joseph Smith's confinement."* Henry was an active member of the Masons from 1849 until his death. He died in Peoria, Peoria Co. IL.
