About Henry Robert Clark
Son of Polly Robinson. Confirmed on father's DAR record.
Rev. Henry R. Clark was a Baptist Minister. His brother, Joel W. Clark, was one of the 13 founding members, who in 1817, founded the Baptist Education Society of the State of New York; at Hamilton, Madison county, NY. In 1819 the Hamilton Literary and Theological Institution was charted; later renamed Colgate University. Henry preached ca 1832 at the Baptist Church in Springport, Cayuga county before coming to the town of Conesus, Livingston county in 1833. He later preached at the Baptist church in South Livonia. His brother, Joel, was known to have been the preacher at this church at about the same time. We believe Joel preceeded Henry as preacher. Henry is said to have 7 children. He was married to Sally Croft. There were difficulties in his family which led to the dispersal of his children to the care of other family members. His son, James P. Clark, is also buried in this cemetery. James was a large-scale potato farmer and produce dealer in the Cohocton/Wayland area. Henry lived on Turkey Hill in the town of Conesus, Livingston county.
