A small incorrect statement in a history book has mislead many researchers to assume a place named Washington Courthouse, VA existed in 1771. There are places named Washington Courthouse in the Virginia in the later 1700's but none of them existed at the time of Henry Huffman's birth. Two examples: Washington Courthouse, Ohio was part of Virginia in 1771. The place did not exist by that name until about 1805. I located a map printed in the early 1900's, that copied a 1790's map. On that map was a place labeled Washington C. H. approximately where Abingdon, Virginia is now. There were several other places labeled with C. H. in other parts of Virginia on that map. However, the Washington County, Virginia historical resources available claim that there never was a place by the above name in that area.
