About Henry Kuttner
Rabbi Henry Kuttner was in St. Louis Missouri and served as a Rabbi at several congregations. He was at United Hebrew in 1857 and B'nai El from 1859 to 1870.
Rabbi Kutner is mentioned numerous times in Zion In the Valley by Walter Ehrlich, The Jewish Community of St. Louis, Volume 1, 1997. He is especially well known for strenuous objections in both written and verbal forms to Grant's General Order Number 11. Kuttner wrote directly to President Lincoln protesting to the Anti-Jewish order. It was the most sweeping Anti-Jewish regulation in all of American History. Lincoln angrily issued instructions to the military to rescind the Order after meeting with Cesar J. Kaskel from Paducah.
