3 Rev. Henry Ruffner Laird, b in Rockbridge Co., Va, Aug. 10, 1842, = Sarah Hillis McCluer, daughter of Robt. C. McCluer and Mary E. Parry, June 15, 1869. He was a Confederate soldier in Company 1, 4th Virginia Infantry,' Stonewall Brigade, from the beginning of the war to July 5, 1862, when he was transferred to Company C, 1st. Virginia Cavalry, and there served until the close of the war. He was educated at Washington College, and Union Theological {Seminary, Va, graduating at the last named institution in 1869, was licensed as a minister of the Presbyterian Church, April 1869, by the Presbytery of Lexington, Virginia, and was ordained April1870, by the Presbytery of Holsten. He was stated supply of Mt. Carmel and Tazewell churches, Va, 1869-70, was pastor of Spring Hill and Mt. Carmel churches, Va, 1871-74, was stated supply of Buffalo and Arbuckle churches, W. Va, 1874-76, pastor of Alderson and Fort Spring churches, W. Va, 1876-83, pastor of Gonzales church, Texas, 1883-89, pastor of Tinkling Spring church, Va, 1889-91, pastor of Beeville and Goliad churches, Texas, 1891-97, and pastor of Millersburg church, Ky, 1897 to the present date. He is good preacher and an energetic, industrious pastor.

[b] Dr. John Harvey Laird, b Nov. 1, 1872, = Helen Wood Hill, daughter of Elijah Hill and Lucy Parks Wood, of Charleston, W. Va, Oct. 14, 1896, was educated at Washington and Lee University, Va, and the University of Virginia, graduating in medicine and surgery from the latter in June 1896. He practiced at Montgomery, W. Va, and at this date is practicing at Sherwood, Rockbridge Co., Virginia
[c] Lilla Preston Laird, b Nov. 17, 1874=:Lenoir Young Smith, of Beeville, Tex., Feb. 19, 1895, and resides near Beeville. Texas.
[d] Henry Robert Laird, b July 14, 1877,d Dec. 9, 1900.
