About Henry McKenney

From: A Story of Many Maine McKenney Families, O. Herbert McKenney Jr./McKenney-Gay Ancestors and their Descendants; Henry McKenney, I, p. 16

"While yet a youth and probably under age, Henry was in the scouting service in defense of his home. His first service was from Nov 22, 1724 to March 20, 1725, as "centinel" or private under Col. Thomas Westbrook. On June 1, he again entered military service with his brothers, Robert and Eleazer, under command of Captain John Gray, remaining only six weeks and two days." "In 1757, he was a member of the Train Band and Alarm List, under command of Captain Dominicus Jordan, a company composed of men from sixteen to sixty years." "Either Henry or his son Henry Jr. was Sergt. in Captain John Small's company in the campaign of 1760."

"Some year later removed to Cape Elizabeth with a family of several children."

"Falmouth, MAy 21, 1725, may it please your Honor: I have since my last, examined Henry McKenney relating the Indians he saw when he burnt the houses at Black Point, and charged him to relate no more than he could give his oath to. He attests that he told between thirty and forty on the plain marsh from the Ferry Garrison where he was on his guard in the Watch Box and at the same time there were others scattered firing the houses up and down. I am your Honor most dutiful humble servant."
