CASPER—Funeral services for Henry E. “Ernie” Nott were conducted Friday, Jan. 2 at the Smith-Perkes Funeral Home in Green River. Father Charles Taylor of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Rock Springs officiated.
Cremation has taken place. Interment of the cremated remains was Friday, Jan. 2 at the Bluffdale Memorial Cemetery in Utah.
Nott, 81, died early Tuesday at the Wyoming Medical Center at Casper following a short illness.
He was born June 9, 1905 in Salt Lake City, the son of Henry W. and Zina Nott. He grew up and was educated in Salt Lake City. He graduated from West High School where he was an outstanding athlete, being named all-state in Utah in football. He also set several long-standing track records.
Following high school, he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad at Green River and also played on the Union Pacific semi-pro baseball team.
He married Arlyne Carpenter on Aug. 6, 1927 in Provo, Utah. They lived in Green River until 1935 when they moved to Kemmerer. He owned and operated a Conoco services station in Kemmerer until 1942. He then returned to Green River and opened a Conoco station there which he operated until 1960.
He then went to work on the Flaming Gorge dam. After its completion, he went to California where he worked on a dam on the American River. He then returned to Green River where he worked for Boles Brothers Construction Company and later was the manager of an auto parts store in Green River until his retirement in 1970.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 13, 1986. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Jackie) Ellis of Casper; a son, Ben Nott of Fremont, Calif.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
