Henry's great grandson offers that Henry was badly burned as a child and was left with rough pitted skin as a result.

"It really was a freak accident. His mother put him in a secured area of the room while she went out to milk the cow. She heard screaming from her child and ran back inside to find his clothes on fire. Some how an ember from the fireplace on the other side of the room traveled across the room setting his clothes on fire."
