Henry's parents, James and Jane Reed, immigrated to Wellington NZ in 1842 on the 'Clifton' a ship of 820 tons.
They sailed from London October 2nd 1841 and arrived in Wellington on February 17th February 1842 James and Jane were from Hawekhurst in Kent and were accompanied by their three daughters, Louisa, Fanny and Jane. James was a Carpenter.
Two sons, Henry and Richard, were born in Wellington but in the 1950's James decided to move to Melbourne, Australia. James went first and then Jane followed. Its believed that the daughters stayed in NZ, but the sons went to Melbourne.
Richard stayed in Australia but Henry later returned to NZ and lived in Gisborne. Poverty Bay is not too far from his sister Fanny Rhodes in Napier.
