Henry A. Ritter, prominent funeral director and former burgess of Coopersburg, died last night at 9.45 o'clock at his home on North Main street of heart failure. He was aged 58 years, 6 months and 13 days. Mr. Ritter was one of Coopersburg's leading citizens and his passing is noted with sorrow by a large number of friends and business associates. He conducted his mortuary business for twenty-nine years. He was burgess of the borough of Coopersburg for two terms up to two years ago. He had not been in good health for the past two years and since then he had not been actively engaged in business. His undertaking establishment was managed by his assistant, Harvey A. Baus(Bassler). However, he was not seriously ill and was not confined to his bed until Thursday. On this day he became suddenly ill and Friday his condition became acute. He was born in Salisbury township, near Emaus, but moved to Coopersburg when he was a boy six years old. He has lived in Coopersburg since then. In 1902 he took over the furniture store which had formerly been conducted by his father, Joel Ritter, on Main street. Ten years ago he sold out his furniture business and devoted his entire interest to his undertaking business. It is estimated that in his entire career he officiated at more than 1,800 funerals.

Fraternally he was affiliated with the P.O.S. of A., of Coopersburg, and the Knights of the Golden Eagle, of Center Valley. He was a member of the Coopersburg Moravian church and an elder of the congregation. He was also a former director of the Coopersburg Building and Loan association. There survive his widow, Dora Ritter; a daughter, Mrs. Florence Miller; three sons, Ray Ritter, Arthur Ritter and Harvey Bassler, the latter an adopted son, all of Coopersburg. In addition there survive five
brothers and a sister as follows: Richard, Fayette, N.Y.; Robert, Kutztown; Milton, Newtown; Maurice and John, Allentown, and Mrs. Rebecca Steininger, of Coopersburg. Four grandchildren also survive. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
