- "Son of Robert Seldon Rose and Jane Lawson Rose, he was probably born in Virginia. His parents emigrated to cental NY in 1802. In 1809, they built a simple frame house on their property, Rose Hill Farm, in Geneva, NY. The building still stands as the reception center to "Rose Hill", a Greek Revival mansion built in 1839 by later owners of the property.
