About Henry W. Wheeler

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private Henry W. Wheeler, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 21 July 1861, while serving with Company A, 2d Maine Infantry, in action at Bull Run, Virginia. Private Wheeler voluntarily accompanied his commanding officer and assisted in removing the dead and wounded from the field under a heavy fire of artillery and musketry.
