About Henryk Gustav Remisiewicz
Dad came to England with the Polish Free Army and stayed here in 1945. He was 20 years and 10 months old when WW2 ended. His mother expected him to return to Poland but he had met my Mum and decided to stay in the UK. Mum and Dad married in 1949 and I was born in 1951. He was a hard working man, working long hours as a motor mechanic to provide for his family. He always made sure we had a holiday every summer. He always had some form of transport eg motor bike and he built a side-car for Mum and me to ride in. He eventually bought a car and gave up the bike but the motor bike was his passion. He was a very intelligent man although his formal education was interupted by the start of WW2. He was an engineer of excellence and invented a jet enjine long before Whittle but lacked the confidence to seek financial backing. What a shame!! Family, friends and neighbours always came to see Dad if they had any trouble with their car and sure enough he was always able to sort out the problem. He was a kind, generous and loving man to his family and his grandchildren brought him great joy.
