About Herbert William Albersmeyer
Herbert and Helen were both born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Herbert lived his entire life in Ft. Wayne. Helen lived in Ft. Wayne except in 1914 and 1915 when she lived in Bluffton, Indiana. In 1923 Herbert lived at 1507 Hugh Street and was employed by Wayne Knitting Mills. They were married on March 31, 1928. Herbert was then employed by Fries Tool and Die Company as a toolmaker, where he worked until retirement.
They moved to 1205 Pemberton Drive, with her parents. In 1931 they moved to his father's house at 1501 Hugh Street. In 1930 Donald was born. In 1935 they lived in a home at 1118 Grant Avenue. In 1936 Dorothy was born. In 1938 they purchased a home at 2721 Weisser Park Avenue. They lived there until 1967 when they purchased a smaller home at 1902 Glenwood Avenue.
During these years Helen worked at Grand Leader and Wolf and Dessauer Department stores intermittently. In his youth, after his mother was hospitalized, Herbert lived with his aunt and uncle. They owned Albersmeyer Drug Store where he worked for a while.
In 1975, Herbert died of a heart attack. After that time, Helen did considerable volunteer work for many organizations. She received many awards for her service and efforts. In 1987 Helen moved from her home to Fairington Apartments and in 1993 she moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. This was the city in which her daughter Dorothy lived. Helen lived the remainder of her life in Raleigh. In 1996 she died from complications after having several strokes. She was buried in Ft. Wayne next to Herbert.
Church: Concordia, Zion and Holy Cross Lutheran Churches. Helen also belonged to Grace Lutheran Church in Raleigh.
