

Herbert B. Haas, 86, of Emmaus, died Saturday, October 25, 2008, in the Inpatient Hospice Unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. His wife, Kathryn (Ferguson) Haas, died in 1982. Born in Oley, he was the son of the late William and Olivia (Moyer) Haas. He was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Emmaus, where he was a deacon, elder, and past president of the church council and the 10 to 2 Club. He was an Army veteran, serving during World War II, and a graduate of Kutztown High School. He was employed by General Electric as a metal finisher for 37 years before retiring and was a past president of United Electrical Workers Union Local 128. Herb was active in the community, he was a member of both the Kutztown and Lyons fire companies, a past president of Emmaus Democratic Club, served on the boards of Health, Sewer Authority and General Authority of Emmaus, was a former vice president of AARP Macungie Group 4150, and was a member of Macungie V.F.W., where he was a Rifleman and member of the Honor Guard. Survivors: Son, Garry Haas and his wife Cheryl of Emmaus; daughter, Karla Haring and her husband Glenn of Macungie; grandchildren, Dina Haas, Chris and Tim Haring, Steph Steigerwalt; great-grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, Jeremy Jr.; sisters, Miriam Warmkessel, Edith Zajac and her husband Joe; companion, Ardella Guth. Services: Memorial, 10 a.m. Saturday, Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 225 Elm St., Emmaus. Call 9-10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Interment will be private, at the convenience of the family.
