About Hermann Gustav Behr
In his Chronik und Stammbaum,Heinrich Rosenthal identifies Behr from Merzig as the husband of his great aunt Emma Rosenthal. He notes that Behr was a veterinarian who was decorated with an Iron Cross (2nd class) for his service in the Franco-Prussian war. The date of their marriage isn't given, but presumably was in the 1880s. Heinrich Rosenthal notes three children of the couple; their first, Emma, was born in 1886.
One of their children, Gertrud, is listed in German birth records that give Behr's first name as Gustav. By the time of her birth, the family was apparently living in Mannheim.
German records list a "Hermann Gustav Behr" as having been born in Brandenburg on the same date listed by Heinrich Rosenthal. It is possible that Hermann Gustav, born in 1849, had moved to Merzig by the time of his marriage to Emma Rosenthal about 30 years later. This would have been a mixed marriage: Hermann Gustav Behr and his many siblings were all baptized Christians, and the Rosenthal family was Jewish.
Records of Gustav Behr's later life have not yet been found.
