About Hermann Johannes Ernst August Ronneberg

Hermann Ronneberg was the owner of Gut Insel (Münster) between 1890 and 1911. After the death of his brother Paul (1911), he sold Gut Insel to the city of Münster. Since Hermann lived in Lütjenburg at that time, the loss of his adminstrator Paul did not allow him to keep the estate any longer. The purchase price was 210,000 Mark, resulting in 165,700 Mark for Hermann Ronneberg after the reduction of all morgages (44,300 Mark).

Hermann accepted 25,700 Mark directly and left the remainder of 140,000 Mark in the hands of the city of Münster for paying him interest at a rate of 4% p.a. In the year of Hermann's death (1923) 100,000 Mark of the original 140,000 Mark were still in the hands of the city of Münster.

Hermann Ronneberg was mayor of the town Lütjenburg in Schleswig-Holstein (northern Germany) between November 25, 1893 and March 31, 1919 (two terms of 12 years each and another partial period). In 1919 he retired on his own request. He became a honorary citizen of Lütjenbug on June 21, 1919. In the council hall of Lütjenburgs's town-hall, a picture of Hermann Ronneberg (oil on canvas) is exhibited together with the pictures of other mayors. Hermann's picture originated in 1959. A photo of this picture is available in the Ronneberg file of Bruno Klahn II. In the town of Lütjenburg, there is a "Ronnebergstraße" being named after Hermann Ronneberg.

According to Dr. O. Neudecker, Wiesbaden, director of the "Wappenrolle der Deutschen Heraldischen Gesellschaft", Hermann was an officer of the reserve of the German army with the same decoration as his brother Eduard ("Oberleutnant der Landwehr außer Dienst", decorated by the "Preußische Landwehrdienstauszeichnung" of second class - LD2). Original source: Rang- und Quartierliste der königlich Preußischen Armee, 1888, p. 683: Holsteinisches Landwehr=Regiment Nr. 85., 1. Batallion (Kiel), Premier-Lieutenant Ronneberg.

Hermann Ronneberg was champion shot "Schützenkönig" of the Lütjenburg "Schützen-Totengilde von 1719" in 1914 (source: 275 Jahr Lütjenburger Schützen und Totengilde von 1719, Jubiläumsfeier 1994)).

Hermann was unmarried. He had diabetis and was stronly suffering from his sickness in the last years of his life.

Otto von Bismarck's telegram

On occasion of the 50th anniversary of the German Revolution of 1848, Hermann Ronneberg sent warm compliments to the resigned "iron" chancelor of the German empire, Otto von Bismarck, in the name of the party guests of a solemn ceremony, which was dedicated to that revolution. Bismarck responded the same day thanking all guests involved (source: Plöner Wochenblatt / Plön Weekly of March 26,1898). The original telegram of March 24, 1898 is included in the Ronneberg file of Bruno Klahn II. It says: "Ich bitte Sie allen Betheiligten für die ehrenvolle Begüßung meinen verbindlichsten Dank auszusprechen. von Bismarck" (I ask you to give my best thanks for your reverence to all having been involved. von Bismarck). On August 31, 1898 Hermann Ronneberg inaugurated the new municipal outlook-tower and baptized it on the name of Bismarck, thus becoming the "Bismarckturm".
