About Holger Ottesen Thott
Holger Thott was fond of books and had an amazing private library. He was fond of his children whom he often mentioned in letters and he worried a lot about them during the Scanian War of 1676-1679. Holger lived close to his sister Jytte who resided at Krogholm/Krageholm with her husband Jörgen Krabbe and they spent a lot of time together. Whilst in his apple orchard with Krabbe, there was a guerilla attack on a group of Swedish dragoons who were billeted at Marsvinsholm and a couple of Swedes were killed and a few others taken prisoner and sent over to Copenhagen. Because Holger and Jörgen Krabbe didn't manage to stop the guerilla attack, they were later charged with treason against the Swedish Crown and Krabbe was imprisoned and executed and Holger Thott was executed in effigie in Malmö, but had been brought to the Danish enclave in Landskrona by Danish troops, together with his family and his brother Tage's family. The Thott brothers and Krabbe had begged King Christian V to help them out of the terrible situation in Scania, but Krabbe had already been arrested when help arrived. Holger and his brothers spent the rest of their lives on the other side of the Sound but their sister Jytte returned to Scania after the war.
