Honorable Edward Ruggles' brother was Brigadier-General Timothy Ruggles, a determined loyalist. His son, our grandpappy, Sergeant Edward Ruggles, was in the Continental Army fighting against the loyalists and the British. In fact General Timothy Ruggles had six nephews who were officers in Washington's army.
I can just imagine the spirited debates at Sunday dinner at their home with opposing viewpoints for the main course. All would feel their stand was right. All would be vocal. . . . . maybe there was so much hostility that they wouldn't even sit down at the same table.
