About Hon. Flournoy Rivers
Flournoy Rivers was a prominent lawyer, a published genealogist, and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was the son of William C. and Julia Flournoy Rivers of Pulaski TN (Giles County). He married Lidie Avirett, also a published genealogist, in 1891.
On his mother's side, Flournoy Rivers was a descendant of Littleberry and Elizabeth Netherland Mosby, via Flournoy's grandparents, William Cannon and Martha Ann Rebecca Ward Camp Flournoy; his great grandparents, Silas and Martha Cannon Flournoy; and his great, great grandparents, William Cannon and Sarah Mosby.
On his father's side, Flournoy Rivers was a grandson of John Harper Rivers (1802-1836) and his wife Sarah Myra Rodes (1812-1865), and great grandson of John and Martha Harper Rivers of Sussex County VA, and Tyree Rodes (1771-1827) and his wife Cynthia Holland, daughter of Major James and Sarah Gilbert Holland, of NC.
