

US Congressman. Born in Emlenton, Pennsylvania, he was an educator and a lawyer previous to his Congressional career. He was elected as a Republican to represent Pennsylvania’s 6th District in the United States House of Representatives, defeating incumbent Congressman Ephraim L. Acker in 1872, and serving a single term from March 4, 1873 to March 3, 1875. He declined to run again for the seat and it was subsequently occupied by Congressman Washington Townsend.
