WILLIAM BLAIR McCLURE, son of Charles and Rebecca (Parker) McClure, born April, 1807, died Dec. 27, 1861, at Pittsburgh, Pa.Graduated from Dickinson College, 1827, read law in Pittsburgh, admitted to bar in 1829. Practiced for many years in partnership with his brother-in-law, Judge Wilson McCandless (Husband of Sarah North Collins). Mr. McClure was appointed and commissioned President-Judge of the Courts of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, Jan. 31, 1850.

That year a constitutional amendment was adopted, making the judiciary elective with a term of ten years. Judge McClure was the first judge elected in Allegheny County, and was re-elected at the expiration of his term, but died Dec. 27, 1861. From 1850 to 1859 he was the only law judge in Common Pleas, Orphans Court, Quarter Sessions, and Oyer and Terminer of the county.

The history of Allegheny County says of Judge McClure: Judge McClure married Lydia Spencer Collins, daughter of Thomas Collins and his wife, Sarah, of Pittsburgh. Mrs. McClure died at St. Paul, Minn., May, 1890, aged 80.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Aug 18 2019, 20:44:52 UTC
