HOWARD W. BIBLE, JURIST, JOURNALIST

Mr. Bible, whose poems and plays had been published here and in England, was born in Washington, N.C. He lived in Denver when Colorado was still a frontier country, and was a friend and "brother" of several prominent Indian chiefs of that time. He also served in the United States Cavalry, having been commissioned at 19.

After participating in expeditions exploring equatorial Africa and northern Canada, Mr. Bible decided on a law career. He was graduated from New York University, admitted to the New York Bar and served for a time as a judge in Putnam County, N.Y. Later he practiced for several years in England.

In the early years of the first World War Mr. Bible was a war correspondent for the old New York Globe and Times of London. Later he was appointed as a dollar-a-year man by President Wilson, and arranged for the release of important German dyes to this country before the United States entered the war, running the British blockade of German ports to bring shiploads here.

An authority on the origin and history of flags of all nations, Mr. Bible had been active in recent years in the work of patriotic societies. in 1927 he founded the Patriotic Products Association, a non-profit organization devoted to the furtherance of patriotic activities.

Mr. Bible was a member of the Seventh Regiment, the Society of Colonial Wars, the Sons of the Revolution and the Sons of the American Revolution. He was also a Mason.
