"Howard J. Rote, 76, of 722 Hazen St. died at 7:07 a.m. today at his home after an extended illness.
He was born in Allegheny County June 7, 1897 to the late Alpheus M. and Ella Ward Rote. He was retired and worked as a parking lot attendant for the First National Bank of Lawrence County.
Mr. Rote was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).
He is survived by his wife, the former Ruby Brooks whom he married June 5, 1918; two sons, James R. of Kansas City, Kan. and Frederick C. of Bedford Heights, Ohio; a brother John of New Castle; a sister, Mrs. Emma Cavender of Warren, Mich.; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded by a brother, Gale [sic], and a sister, Mrs. Mabel Faller.
Friends will be received at the Edward A. DeCarbo and Son Funeral Home, S. Mill and E. Lutton streets, from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. A service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Raymond Graham of the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery."
