Obituary for Hubert H "Kel" Kelso
Hubert "Kel" Harvey Kelso
Former owner of Hollyhock Hill, passed away on April 5, 2013.
He was born in Rush County, Indiana on May 28, 1915 to Thomas and Blanch Kelso.
He graduated from Rushville High School in 1933 and attended Miami University for one year before entering military service. He served in the Army Quartermaster Corp and was stationed in Japan retiring as 1st Lieutenant from service in 1946.
Hubert purchased the Hollyhock Hill restaurant in 1947 and operated the restaurant until he retired in 1993.
He was president of the Restaurant Association and was inducted into the Indiana Restaurant Association's Hall of Fame in 1963-64.
He was member of Meridian Hills Country Club, GYRO Club of Indiana and Second Presbyterian Church.
His wife, Marie, preceded him in death in 2011.
Surviving children are daughters, Victoria LaChappelle, husband Robert, Sherry Graul, husband Jerry, Christopher Kelso, wife, Jill, deceased. Also four grandchildren, Kelly, Megan, Mandi and Christine also seven great grandchildren. A brother, Charles Keslo, wife Patricia.
Family and friends will gather on Monday, April 8th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. in the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel . Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Indianapolis or the Salvation Army.
