Survived by widow, Mrs. Ellen Johnson Merwin; sons, Hubert John Merwin III, Knoxville; William Hemsley Merwin, Winston-Salem, NC; five grandchildren. Private graveside service Highland Memorial Cemetery 10 a.m. Tuesday, Rev. William C. Garrison officiating. Mann's, Church Avenue in charge.
