Merwin, John - age 70, of Knoxville, died 6:33 a.m. July 18, 1997, at the family home. Member of Fountain City Presbyterian Church; retired traffic manager, White Lily Foods; U.S. Army WWII veteran; 1951 University of Tennessee graduate. Survivors: wife, Mary C. Merwin, Knoxville; daughters, Rachel Murphy and husband Jeff of Crab Orchard, Rosemary Merwin of Knoxville; sons Hugh Merwin of Atlanta, Benjamin Merwin of Knoxville, Daniel Merwin and wife Tammy of Clinton; granddaughter, Sarah Danielle Merwin, Clinton; brother, William H. Merwin, Sr., Winston-Salem, N.C.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Beverly and Stewart Carnes, Knoxville; two nieces; three nephews. Memorial service 3 p.m. Sunday in the sanctuary of Fountain City Presbyterian Church, Dr. Jack Davis and Dr. Tom Ballard officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Memorials ay be made to Fountain City Presbyterian Church or Fountain City Branch Library.
