Hugh was the eldest child and son of Dennis Knox Duncan and Malinda Jane (Hope) Duncan Wilson.

He fought for the Army of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War and was taken prisoner. His experiences while in Northern Prison Camp affected him greatly - he probably suffered from what we now term PTSD.

Hugh never married. He worked as a carpenter and cabinetmaker for the remainder of his life and most times lived with one or another of his siblings and their families.

(From : Mr. Duncan was a Private in Company G, 16th Missouri Infantry C.S.A. On July 21st-22nd, 2017 the Campbell's Company Camp #2252 - Sons of Confederate Veterans honored his service with a Southern Cross of Honor.). Travis Archie
