About Hugh Findlay

Hugh Findlay (1822 - 1900), son of James Findlay and Mary McPherson (1797 - 1879), was born 9 June 1822 at Newmilns, East Ayrshire, Scotland; he died 1 March 1900 at Fish Haven, Bear Lake, Idaho, and was buried at Fish Haven Cemetery, Plot: 13a. His gravestone is inscribed, "Missionary to India 1852-1855; Scotland 1878-1880." He had four plural wives and 21 children, 14 of whom survived to adulthood. The 1870 Census lists Hugh's occupation as matchmaker.
