About Hussaina Alavi
On a day of burial there is no perspective--for space itself is annihilated. Your dead friend is still a fragmentary being. The day you bury him is a day of chores and crowds, of hands false or true to be shaken, of the immediate cares of mourning. The dead friend will not really die until tomorrow, when silence is round you again. Then he will show himself complete, as he was--to tear himself away, as he was, from the substantial you. Only then will you cry out because of him who is leaving and whom you cannot detain."
-- Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
One year has passed since the family was deprived of the love and Sahara of Husena Bai Alavi. Not a day goes by when we do not think of her. Just a glance at her chair, her blue rubber slippers lying outside her door, her Quran and her reading glasses, her Kor wara Oudhnas, there are just so many memories. Many moments in each day we feel her guidance and her silent support. Her life was her family and her family has been blessed to have shared some time with her and let her mould us in her typical way. Husena Bai we miss you.

The members of Her Family
Tears are sometimes an inappropriate response to death. When a life has been lived completely honestly, completely successfully, or just completely, the correct response to death's perfect punctuation mark is a smile."
